The Heartbroken Heartbreaker

It took me how long to write this? Probably a million years! This piece is long overdue! Ladies and gentlemen, especially ladies, please do not feel particularly attacked by this piece. I am trying very hard to be honest.
Last night, I thought to myself what my response would be if people ever asked me if I've been heartbroken and before I knew it, I had a long speech about how unserious men can be and how women suffer as a result of this. Then it occurred to me that, in the real sense of things, I have never had my heart broken by anybody. Please, please, please, I am not forming wonder woman or holy than thou, it is the simple truth!
I came to this realization because, I noticed that if there was ever a time that I felt terrible emotionally it was because of my own expectations and unrealistic guesses. I really don't like to write things about love and relationship and stuff because it gives my readers too much opportunity to get into my head and sometimes, imagine things I did not even say! Please, I am not saying that I am a hopeless romantic, please oh.
I only want my fellow unmarried people to realize that sometimes when we are let down emotionally be it in a romantic relationship or platonic relation, we may very well be the reason. I mean, from the start, certain people clearly let you know that they can't give as much as you would love in a friendship or relationship. However, we keep hoping things will change and if they don't, we play heartbroken.
The biggest example of Heartbreakers who break their own hearts is mostly found in romantic relationships. I mean, sometimes ladies get involved with married men who are bored of their marriages and when the man suddenly quits the relationship, the ladies cry foul. Excuse me, what did you expect? Also, there are some times when out of the blindness that comes with love, people overlook serious shortcomings of the people they date. Over time, love is bound to get cold somehow and when it does, your blindness is partially healed, hurray! But then you're stuck with an annoying person. Chances are that the doings and undoings of the person will begin to annoy if not hurt you. The end product? Heartbreak. Then you begin to listen to Beyonce and Taylor Swift, you dance and sing and play the victim but really, you victimized yourself.
Am I saying love an extremely perfect person? No. Am I saying don't date a married man? That is your wahala! A child that can swallow a whole coconut knows how he will liaise with his anus so that they can shit it out! Don't rush into things, don't overlook serious issues, don't break YOUR heart!

With love,
From a young girl looking for ice-cream.

  6. This is nice Winnie. I think you should write something about 100lv girls and final year boys. There is this misconception about the love affair that exist between them. I have always seen the final year boy as one that sees 100lv girls as vulnerable and chooses to hunt, catch trips and leave the school for good or sadly still, a cursed future. I recently got to discover there is a second side to the coin and that's the 100lv girl flaunting herself just so she can grab a final year boy in her warm embrace.

To Copy or Not?

*Singing 9ice's 'photocopy no easy, you can never be like me' * Actually, photocopy is easy, and very cheap sef. In Ibadan you can photocopy a page for #2 if you know the right places. Anyway, I'm not here to talk about literal photocopy today but something metaphorical. First, I apologize for being AWOL, it wasn't deliberate. Now, to today's issue. Do you think it's a bad thing to copy people around you? In my opinion, it's not advisable even though it is not totally bad. The reason is simple. It is not bad to want to copy someone if you think that person is a better version of you. However, I think it's wrong to copy a person's every move. In my opinion, you both can be similar but yet different! To illustrate, I will use cake and wine. Cake and wine are similar because they are both edibles, but they are also different. The longer wine stays on the shelf, the better it gets! However, cake is best served hot I think. That is why people call...

Bathroom Decisions

Yes, are you thinking of the exact same thing? Yes? No? For most people, the toilet is the most conducive place to make 60% of the day's decisions but for me, it is the bathroom. Actually, not 60% of my decisions are made in the bathroom but one insignificant yet significant decision. Everyday, I struggle with a terrible dilemma in my bathroom. The moment I walk in, take my towel off and hang it, I begin to consider my entire existence and my thoughts shift from life to death. Sometimes, I consider if it will be better to hang myself since my towel seems to dance beautifully from its hanging position while I wallow in misery. I ask myself questions like, "will anybody notice I didn't show up for work, if they don't see me at the office today?" and "will anyone go into panic and wonder if something happened to me, like, did I die?" In between these questions, I think of taking the bold step and ending it all at once but fear pushes me back, like every ...
